Jesus told his disciples many times that they could ask for things and God would give it to them. He said they have not because they ask not (James 4:2). He loves us and he wants to give us the desires of our heart. The Bible tells us that if we “Delight thyself also in the Lord: he shall give thee the desires of thine heart (Psalm 37:4). The Lord wants us to desire things above and not things of the earth. Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” 1 Corinthians 14:1 said that we should desire spiritual gifts.
Jesus said to his disciples in John 16:23-26, “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:”
Matthew Chapter 7:7-11 says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
