Fishers of Men

fishers

Often I listen to CD of the Bible read to me as I drive to work.  This week I was listening to the Gospel according to Luke Chapter 5.  Jesus had entered Simon’s ship and he said into him, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.”  Simon Peter didn’t want to because he had fished all night and caught nothing.  But because Jesus asked him to, he said, At thy word, I will let down the net.  After he had done what was asked, he caught a great multitude of fish and his net brake.  So he asked his partners to come and help them.  After both the ships were filled and began to sink, Simon Peter fell down at Jesus’ feet and said, “Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

Jesus said to Simon, “Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.”  And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all and followed him.   What amazed me was that it said, ‘They forsook all’.  It didn’t say they hurried and got their fish sold and then followed Christ, but they forsook all they had.  This amount of fish must have been worth quite a lot of money.  They seen something in Jesus, where they obeyed him.  Matthew 4:20 tells us that they ‘straightway left their nets and followed him.’  Webster dictionary tells us that straightway means: right away and immediately.  They didn’t hesitate or question where they were going.  Jesus was telling his disciples that one day they would catch men, by sharing the gospel of Christ to them.  This showed how great their faith was in Jesus, to forsake all they had and follow him.

Many times when we know we need to do something, we might hesitate or question whether it is what we are suppose to do.  God left us a perfect road-map, called his holy word, the Bible.  It gives us direct commandments of what God expects from us.  One great commission Jesus told us to do was to ‘Preach the gospel.’  Luke 14:23 says, “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.”  See Jesus expects his followers to do the same as he expected his disciples to do, and that was to catch men. I know I have heard many times how God laid it on someone’s heart to witness to someone.  Well, I believe God does just that.  His Holy Spirit works through his servants, which are preachers, teachers and children of God, to share his gospel.  The gospel of Jesus Christ is this: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

John 1:12 says,”But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”  God gives us that power to share the gospel to the world.  He said he would never leave us or forsake us.  He said he would strengthen us where our faith fail not.  Praise be to God for his son, Jesus Christ.

A Friend of God

Image result for abraham

Wouldn’t it be amazing to be considered God’s Friend.  The Bible talks about Abraham and how he was A Friend of God. James 2:23 says, “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.” What did Abraham do that brought him so close to God that he was considered God’s friend? To answer this question, one must study the life of Abraham and his character.

Looking at the life of Abraham, he was a simple man. He prayed to God and kept his commandments. Genesis 12 tells us how he obeyed God and left his home. Every place Abraham stopped on his journey, he built an altar and prayed to the Lord. Genesis 13:4 says, “Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. Abraham refused to take part in life of Sodom; he refused to take anything from the king also.  He allowed his nephew Lot to chose where he wanted to live, because their possessions were great and to keep peace among their cattlemen.

Abraham depended on the Lord for guidance. Genesis 15:6 says, “And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Abraham was a man of faith, he kept the way of the Lord, he did justice and judgment (18:19). He obeyed God without question; God told him to sacrifice his only son, Issac. Genesis 22:3 says he rose up early in the morning, saddled his ass and took wood for the burnt offering, and went to the place God had told him. He was willing to sacrifice his son, because he believe that God was able to fulfill his promises. Hebrews 11:17-19 says, “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.”

Today I would say that a person who truly wants to be a friend of God, must cleave to God no matter what.  They need to pray to God daily, several times a day.  Rely on God to lead you in your every day life.  Ask for his guidance in whatever you do and trust him to take care of your needs.  Give God the reverence he deserves, which means humbling yourself under his authority. Next, love his son, Jesus and thank him for his sacrifice on the cross for your sins. Last but not least, I would say worship and praise him.  God wants and deserves our praise and honor.  He is our creator and master.

Give Me More Peace

peace551

A person doesn’t truly know what Peace entails until they are stripped of their peace and left fearful and afraid.  Peace is what allows us to lay our head down at night and sleep without fearing what could happen to us. Let me give you an example of a person without peace.  A person without peace is one who barely sleeps because they fear that they will have bad dreams or afraid of dying in their sleep.  A person without peace is afraid to leave their house because of what will happen when they do.  A person without peace will always be looking over their shoulder, wondering what could happen or who could harm them.

Now I look at a person who has some peace in their life, they will rest soundly at night. They may not fear death as much because they have some faith in God.  Let me tell you of one who can give you the peace you desire, his name is Jesus Christ.  He said, “Come unto me ye that heaven laden and I will give you rest,” Matthew 11:28).  See the Bible says, that we can cast our cares and burdens upon the Lord, because he cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).  Jesus is not just anyone, he is the son of the most high God.  He mediates on our behalf.  He loves us and wants to give us that peace we desire, if we call upon him.  He said, “All those that come to him, he will in no wise cast out (John 6:37). Trust in the Lord and call upon him and believe and he will give you the peace you desire.

Peace

Peace is given from one immortal soul.
It’s reaching one’s everlasting goal.
Silence in the quietness of open field,
Feeling protection in one’s inner shield.

Choosing rather to be meek and have power,
than to be weak as a delicate flower.
A turtle dove reposing on a tree,
feeling peace when God’s strength rest upon me.

Kneeling at the altar to pray,
Going to church on the Lord’s day.
A calming effect on an inner core,
challenges gone forever more.

It comes when war is over and freedom roars,
The red, white, blue- Old glory soars.
A family, nation living in one accord,
A rested soul that sleeps in the Lord.

Born to Die for Our Sins

christmasnativity

One day long ago, in times past,
God sent a sign for the wise men.
Way up high a star was cast,
to lead the way to his dear son.
Gifts were brought to celebrate,
of Gold, frankincense and Myrrh.
Jesus, God’s son deserved a better fate,
than to die for the sins of the world.
Mary was the chosen, from above,
to give birth to the Savior.
He was given because of God’s love,
to die for the sins of the world.
Angels rejoiced in Jesus birth,
because he was God in the flesh.
He was born to live on the earth,
to die for the sins of the world.
The heaven mourned while he was away,
winning the lost and saving souls.
He went to the cross that last day,
to die for the sins of the world.

Jesus Birth- Meaning of Christmas

christmasnativity

For those that have to celebrate Christmas without part of your family, I can sympathize with you.  My son has spent the last five years away from us on Christmas due to his job. Some have never had to spend time away from their children and may not realize how it feels.  I know when my son left home to join the military, I felt like a part of me had died.  My family didn’t feel complete, I felt a huge part was missing.  No longer was there a house of four but now three.  No one told me how difficult it was going to be when one of my children left the house.  I guess I see where the term empty nest comes from.  Birds usually push their babies out of the nest when they are ready, but I was grieved when I couldn’t see my son.  He was stationed over in Japan for two years.  That is two years without being able to see him.  He left a week before Christmas, so Christmas felt very empty that year to me.

I wonder if that is how God felt when his only son left Heaven to come to this earth.  His only prince was born into flesh, from the womb of a lovely lady to a place quite different from the paradise that he once lived in.  Now he had to experience a life of pain, sorrow, agony and humility.  To truly understand this, you have to have experienced loss yourself.  My awesome God gave his only begotten son to be born, so that he later could be sacrificed for the sins of the whole world.  I wonder if God felt the loss of his son while he was away.  I can only imagine how much he missed him.  Then to see him on a cross in agony; no wonder he turned his eyes from him.

I love the season of Christmas with so many people celebrating and rejoicing in the birth of Jesus Christ.  Many people that are usually not so nice tend to be sweeter during the holidays.  I encourage you to think of the sacrifice of Jesus and God this season and show love for someone like God showed for mankind.  See God knew that mankind was simply without hope, without a blood sacrifice, an atonement for the remission of sins.  He loved the world so much that he gave his only son.  John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  We serve a God that truly loves each and everyone on this earth.  He is long suffering to us-ward not willing that anyone perish, but that all may come to know his precious son, Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:9).

If you don’t know Jesus, I urge you to get on your knees and bow to the Holy King of Kings and ask him into your life.  Ask forgiveness for your sins and he will welcome you with open arms into his family above.

Tis the Season for Giving

giving55

Tis the season of giving. We should all learn how to give by God’s example; he gave his only begotten son so we may have eternal life. In this season, I urge you to find ways to give to others. Giving doesn’t always mean giving money to someone in need; it can be giving of your time. To give means to freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone); hand over to. Another definition of giving means to endure the loss of; sacrifice.  Jesus gave his life as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Give unto others and expect nothing back in return.  Do not let others know what you have done.  Give in secret and you will receive a reward in Heaven.  Luke 6:35 says, But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Giving should be done with charity (1 Corinthians 13:3).

gift3Give the gift of the gospel to others (1 Peter 4:10).  If you love others you want them to receive the gift of salvation.  Romans 6:23 says, For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

There is no greater gift to give than that of your only son. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

More definitions of giving:
a. To devote or apply completely
b. To permit one to have or take
c. To furnish or contribute
d. To offer in good faith
e. To allot as a portion or share
f. To bestow
g. To attribute
h. To award as due
I. To distribute
j. To devote (oneself) completely:
k. To devote to a particular purpose or use
l. To distribute or send forth

Should we Welcome Refugees

syrians

I have had mixed feeling about the Syrian Crises and allowing refugees into our nation.  I care deeply for those that are struggling but I wanted to know what God wants us to do.  So I as I read Joshua 23 this morning I see what God says about securing our borders. Joshua 23:7 says, “That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them.” Verse 13 talks about how they will be “snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes.” Why would they be snares unto us?  This answer is because they do not serve our God? They serve other gods and will bring in their ideology into our country.

The other day I read a post from one mans blog about how we are to show love and compassion to them, and he of course tried to say we weren’t showing love if we didn’t welcome them.  He of course quoted a lot of New Testament verses but nothing from the Old Testament.  To me the Old Testament is just as important.  It is Gods Holy word and we should read the whole council of God not just parts they we think fit our ideals.  I have prayed about it because I wanted to know what God wanted me to see about it.  That should be the main thing, to seek Gods wisdom and not our own.

Have you ever heard, A little leaven will leaven the whole lump?  To give you an illustration of this, one might have a container of beautiful apples that were freshly picked.  If the patch has one rotten apple that is able to stay in the container with the other beautiful apples, they all will quickly rot.  Galatians 5:9 says, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.”  God wants us to be careful who and what we are around.  If we are around coworkers who curse all day, odds are that either we will begin to curse or it will be drilled into our thoughts, where we hear those words over and over.  I know if I watch something on television, I go to bed thinking on the show I watched.

So to bring in people from another country that have other gods and worship idols is to bring in pollution that one day will affect our children.  It might not happen all at once, but it will eventually.  You can count on it.  They will go to school with kids that pray to their false gods and they may even question them. Then they will hear all about it.  I know some states are already incorporating these things in our school textbooks.  They are making our children learn about Allah and Islam.  They will hire teachers who are Muslim that will teach our kids their beliefs.  This has already happened, in case you haven’t heard.

Love and compassion are important for all mankind, that is why we must  pray for our nations to come to know God.  We should not welcome in their ideologies into our nation with open arms.  I know I care about people coming to know Christ.  Confusion will come into our nation because some will not know the truth; some do not seek after the truth.

James 3:16 says, “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”  This topic alone has brought in confusion, because many are divided on their views.  I urge you to seek God and his council and not look to mans views.  I don’t care how famous that man is, God should be the Lord of your life.  Recently I read this: At least one assailant in the Nov. 13 Paris terrorist attack, in which 130 people were killed, is suspected of entering France posed as a migrant.
Some are trying to say Islam is a peaceful religion.  It doesn’t matter!  They do not worship the God of gods.  They worship a false god and that is what is important.  My God says in Exodus 20:3,5, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not bow down thself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”

Giving Thanks

indians

With the holiday season of Thanksgiving we all know that it stands for day of remembrance to give thanks for the blessings of harvest!  Many take this time to give God Thanks for the blessings that God has given us.  Most go through the tradition of having family and friends to come over and celebrate Thanksgiving by having a great dinner with turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes and all the fixings. Dare I say that some might not take time to celebrate the season and perhaps even dread the day that their lives are interrupted for a day.

Let me tell you that I believe everyone needs to give thanks to God every day of their lives especially at the Thanksgiving holiday.  This years season has been really exciting to me.  I know I will have to miss my son coming home for the holiday because he is in the military, but I am truly blessed.  After going through some trials this year, I feel truly blessed to spend time to give thanks with my family.  We usually go over my mothers house and bring a casserole and spend it with my sisters and their families.  Our family keeps growing.  My three sisters have husband and children and now grandchildren, which makes moms house full.  Not really enough room to turn around.  That is what is a blessing!  To have family that cares about you and that you can spend time with.  I thank God for the blessing of family.

From the beginning God said be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth.  That means God wants us to have family and enjoy what he has given us.  He never said that our lives would be perfect but that he would always be with us.  I heard a sermon the other day where the preacher was talking about the Israelites when they were led from Egypt.  God prepared them a land of milk and honey, the promise land.  All but a couple never made it because of their rebellion and complaining.  God wants to bless you with all spiritual blessings. Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”  God has prepared for us a place in Heaven but we must be his children.  That simply means we need to repent and accept his son Jesus as our Savior.

I hope you all enjoy the Thanksgiving season and remember to give God thanks for all that he has done for you.  He loves us and he is always with us, even unto death.  1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Fear Not, God is With Us

Image result for fear not

If you have been reading my post for a while, you may have read about a time in my life, that was really traumatic for me.  I was at a place in time that I do not ever want to go again.  As I look back I realize that God was always with me even if it didn’t seem that way.  It took me a long time to understand that the things that I went through was for my purifying, for me to become a person that God would want me to be.  I often asked why, but it took months for me to realize that even though the time was so traumatic for me, and scary, that I needed to see how much I needed God and Jesus in my life.

A person may think they are close to God, but it takes the trials and tribulations for us to realize how much we really truly need the Lord.  Even though I hated going through that time, I know that it has helped my walk with the Lord now.  I know that Jesus is always with me no matter what I go through.  He said he would never leave me or forsake me.  I know each day I need the Lord, giving him praises that he deserves.

Satan often tries to convince you that Jesus doesn’t love you.  He loves to whisper in your ear, that you are not good enough or that God will never forgive you.  Let me tell you that you must not listen to Satan’s deception, because it can be overwhelming.

When you go through that trial, allow God to work in you and create in you a new creature for his honor and glory.  When you read more about God, Jesus and his disciples, it helps you realize that you are not alone.  There were things that Jesus and his disciples went through that wasn’t easy.  They suffered many things for the sake of the gospel.  We have it so much easier than they did.

Everyone has experienced some form of fear in their life but, realize God is in control. When you recognize that, you will not have fear but trust. Fully trust in God and allow him to have control of your mind, soul, body and your life. God says in Revelations, I am alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am he that was, and is, and is to come the almighty. He controls the world. He controls the wind, clouds, and waves. He has been to the depth of the sea and to the outmost part of the universe. He numbers the hairs on your head. He can create life and he can take it. When you fully grasp how almighty he is, then you can fully put your faith in him. He can help you with your problems, but you have to ask him to. God is able to cast down those things that come against you and place you in a place that Satan himself cannot reach.  Psalm 18:33 says, “He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.”  2 Chronicles 20:15 says, “Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” Allow God to take control of your life and you will become a happier, fearless person.

Tips for getting rid of fear:

  1. Trust in the Lord and cast all your worries and cares to Jesus. I heard a sermon about “Casting All your Care Upon Him for He Careth For You”, found in 1 Peter 5:7. The preacher stated that this verse has several different meanings. One meaning is to give all your worries or cares unto the Lord for he cares for you and will help you to overcome them. By having confidence in the Lord, he will help you to overcome your worries.
  2.  Quote bible scripture and study God’s word.  He will teach you and instruct you in his path of righteousness. Learn scripture to help you remember that God is in control.  Such as: Psalm 91-He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust…………….. Or Isaiah 41:10-Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
  3. Accepting Christ as your Savior. No greater joy can a person feel than when they first accept Christ as their Savior. If you have never heard about Jesus, it might take you some time to fully trust in him. I have been a Christian since I was fifteen years old. That is when I accepted Christ. At that moment I felt a true sense of peace that cannot be understood by the unbeliever. I say that if you surrender to Christ, he will help you with all your cares. Take that leap of faith and surrender to him.4. Casting away all doubt.  It can keep you from fearing life. I know that not one person can really control their life or health. You can diet, exercise, and stay stress free but God is the one who controls your life. I’m not saying those things are not important because they really are. It is when you place your life in God’s hands then you can truly become healed. One thing I quote when I start to worry about something is: Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10)

    5. Prayer is still the number one way to relieve fear. Prayer can help you overcome anything. How do you talk to God? We can wish for a care free world, but that is not always going to happen. We can pray for a better world and God may help us to live in this world with more peace in our lives. With Prayer one can overcome all life’s obstacles. God does not answer prayers always the way we want him to, but he will answer them. Remember he is all-knowing and he is God. He knows what you need before you ask but he is waiting on you to talk to him.

    6. Attending church and associating with other believers can bring you joy.  Find a church to go to and make friends with other Christians.  Attend church events such as Bible study or Ladies meetings.  Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation (Psalms 111:1).

Serving Only One God

Image result for serving two masters

A well educated man told me once that he had read the Bible, the Koran and all the religious books about other Gods and thought it was perfectly fine to serve them all.  Let me tell you that you cannot serve more than one master.  Matthew 6:24 from the King James Version of the Bible tells me: No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.  This tells me clearly that you must choose who you will serve.  I know that God is a jealous God (Exodus 20:5).  He is your creator and he deserves all your honor and praise.  Exodus 34:14 says, “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”

Anyone that has clearly read the Bible should realize that the only way to Heaven is clearly through the son of God, which is Jesus Christ.  Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”  That means anyone of any race or national orgin can be saved, if they believe on Jesus Christ.

One might ask why believe in Christ?  I have written post on this before and I will post links to read more about it, but to tell you in simple terms, Christ died on a cross for the sins of the whole world (John 3:16). Jesus is not dead but he arose from the dead and now sits on the right side of the Father (God).  Romans 8:34 says, “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Many have heard on Jesus all over the world.  He was born in Bethlehem, a Palestinian town south of Jerusalem.  He lived a perfect life, without sin.  The Israelites knew that a Messiah was coming but many rejected him at that time.  They crucified him by killing him and hanging him on a cross.  But, He arose the third day. God arose him from the dead.  One might ask why did he die.  John 3:16 says, “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Jesus became our high priest. We no longer go to a Priest to ask for forgiveness but can come boldly to the throne of God through our prayers.  Hebrews 4:14 says, “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.”  So when we pray, our Lord Jesus intercedes on our behalf.  Therefore if we serve anyone other than Jesus, than he will not intercede for us, because he is our high priest.  He is God’s beloved son.  2 Peter 1:17 says, “For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”   He was without sin and therefore he is perfect. Hebrews 7:27 says, “Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.”

Therefore Jesus is the only way to Heaven.  Ye must accept Jesus as your Savior, ask him for forgiveness and he will create in you a new creature.  You will be born into his family above.  I didn’t say you would go to Heaven as soon as you accept him, because as a Christian, God wants us to serve him.  He wants us to tell others about Jesus.  Start with your family, friends and keep his commandments. The only way to know his complete will is to read his holy word.  Ask God for wisdom and direction.   – https://godlywitnesses.wordpress.com/2014/12/23/ye-must-be-born-again/
